How to Paint a Landscape – the process

Want to learn how to paint a landscape? This tutorial will cover landscape painting using water mixable oil paints. The tutorial covers the process of painting a landscape from initial drawings to final painting. Water mixable oil paint has to be applied ‘fat on thin’, in other words, you must start with thin layers of paint with lots of medium followed by increasingly thicker layers of paint. This easy painting tutorial also covers the important issue of allowing paint layers to dry before applying the next layer of oil paint. The tutorial covers the basics of the process of painting with water mixable oil paints. I may cover techniques etc in more detail at a later date, if people enjoy this video.

This oil painting tutorial also explains how paint can be applied to create texture using sponges, card and brushes which have been cut. Paint medium formulas and colour mixing are also discussed and explained.

Are you an Artist?

At Paul Priestley’s Art World, we believe being an artist is a twofold process. It’s a combination between skills, techniques, creativity and the ability to see things in a way others often can’t. Some people become obsessed with learning the techniques of drawing and painting, but that only takes you so far. Passion and the creativity to experiment and make mistakes are essential.

You will only become an artist if …

Remember that no one in the world draws and paints like you do. Be proud of the fact. As an artist seek an individual vision, and don’t let anyone say you haven’t got that. Paul Priestley art tutorials are taught with lots of passion, creativity and with a simple step by step approach to drawing that will inspire everyone. Our art tutorials will help you create your individual vision.
