Paint a Landscape: 2

Painting landscape with acrylic paint can be a little daunting, but in this painting series everything is covered simply. Check out Part 1 of these painting tutorials on painting landscape to see how to select colours (colors) and start colour mixing. using tones appropriate for a landscape painting. This is part 2 of my art tutorial on How to Paint a Landscape and assumes you have painted the basics of your landscape. This time I am focusing on the use of scale to create depth in the painting. This idea is combined with the fact that colours get lighter as they go into the background creates distance in the landscape.

I shall show you how, by simply making trees smaller and lighter as they disappear into the landscape it will give a sense of depth. I am using acrylic paint. This art tutorial is aimed at beginners, children, primary school art teachers and anyone who is starting out on this wonderful journey of painting.

Want to be an Artist?

At Paul Priestley’s Art World, we believe being an artist is a twofold process. It’s a combination between skills, techniques, creativity and the ability to see things in a way others often can’t. Some people become obsessed with learning the techniques of drawing and painting, but that only takes you so far. Passion, having the creativity to experiment and make mistakes is far more important.

You will become an artist if …

You remember that no one in the world draws and paints like you do. Be proud of the fact. As an artist seek an individual vision, don’t let anyone say you haven’t got that. Or tell you that your art work is not relevant or good enough – what do they know! Paul Priestley art tutorials are taught with lots of passion, creativity and with a simple step by step approach to drawing that will inspire everyone. Our art tutorials will help you create your individual vision and hopefully, will help you become the artist you have always wanted to be. I sincerely hope so.
