Learning to draw an elephant is not so difficult. In this art tutorial I explain how to draw an African elephant is easy to follow simple stages. We start with just a few oval shapes drawn very lightly and progress to an outline. I show how to make the outline suggest the elephant’s wrinkled skin, before explaining how to add light , shade and tone to the drawing to make the elephant look three dimensional.
I finish the drawing by explaining how to get rid of the outline to create an edge around the elephant, which makes the animal look more realistic. This tutorial is aimed at beginners to drawing, including children, and those wishing to develop their drawing further.

Are you an Artist?
At Paul Priestley’s Art World, we believe being an artist is a twofold process. It’s a combination between skills, techniques, creativity and the ability to see things in a way others often can’t. Some people become obsessed with learning the techniques of drawing and painting, but that only takes you so far. You also need the passion and the creativity to experiment and make mistakes.
You will become an artist if …
You need to remember that no one in the world draws and paints like you do. Be proud of the fact. As an artist seek an individual vision, and don’t let anyone say you haven’t got that. Paul Priestley art tutorials are taught with lots of passion, creativity and with a simple step by step approach to drawing that will inspire everyone. Our art tutorials will help you create your individual vision.
