Basic techniques – Draw a Teddy Bear

Learning how to draw a teddy bear can look a bit daunting, but if your break in down into simple shapes it becomes easy. In this art tutorial, I use my extensive art teaching experience to look at the basic drawing technique of how we look at an object as a series of shapes. When we look at the teddy bear we see a cuddly bear, but as an artist you need to look at it as a series of simple shapes.

If you are a beginner to drawing check out this video which shows you the basics of drawing; Basic Drawing techniques: Outlines and Edges

This video on How to Draw with Shapes may also be useful.
Once the simple shapes of the teddy bear have been drawn we can move on to drawing texture. The texture can be achieved with a flicking action with the pencil. It’s a simple process and will help you draw a teddy bear that looks cuddly.

The video is aimed at complete beginners, children and those who want to develop their basic drawing skills.

Are you an Artist?

At Paul Priestley’s Art World, we believe being an artist is a twofold process. It’s a combination between skills, techniques, creativity and the ability to see things in a way others often can’t. Some people become obsessed with learning the techniques of drawing and painting, but that only takes you so far.

Also, remember getting the best materials you can afford will not make you a better artist. What you do with the materials is the important issue. Passion, the creativity to experiment and make mistakes is far more important.

You will become an artist if …

You remember that no one in the world draws and paints like you do. Be proud of the fact. As an artist seek an individual vision, don’t let anyone say you haven’t got that. Or tell you that your art work is not relevant or good enough – what do they know!

Paul Priestley art tutorials are taught with lots of passion, creativity and with a simple step by step approach to drawing that will inspire everyone. Our art tutorials will help you create your individual vision and hopefully, will help you become the artist you have always wanted to be. I sincerely hope so.
