Draw a Figure with Clothes

Drawing clothes on people can be difficult, but it is a drawing skill you can learn. In this drawing tutorial on how to Draw a Figure with clothes, I explain step by step how by starting from a simple figure shape. If you want to know how to draw a simple figure correctly check out my art tutorial; How to Draw a Figure in Proportion.

Once the figure is drawing lightly you can add clothes by bringing the outline into the drawing. The idea is to draw in the lines where you expect fold to be. This is quite an effective way of suggesting folds in the material of the clothes. To make the folds look more realistic you can add light and shade so the figure will look three dimensional.

Are you an Artist?

At Paul Priestley’s Art World, we believe being an artist is a twofold process. It’s a combination between skills, techniques, creativity and the ability to see things in a way others often can’t. Some people become obsessed with learning the techniques of drawing and painting, but that only takes you so far.

Also, remember getting the best materials you can afford will not make you a better artist. What you do with the materials is the important issue. Passion, the creativity to experiment and make mistakes is far more important.

You will become an artist if …

You remember that no one in the world draws and paints like you do. Be proud of the fact. As an artist seek an individual vision, don’t let anyone say you haven’t got that. Or tell you that your art work is not relevant or good enough – what do they know!

Paul Priestley art tutorials are taught with lots of passion, creativity and with a simple step by step approach to drawing that will inspire everyone. Our art tutorials will help you create your individual vision and hopefully, will help you become the artist you have always wanted to be. I sincerely hope so.
