I have just been researching the artist Henri Rousseau who will become one of my artists in school and it struck me that nothing in life changes. Poor Rousseau (1844 – 1910) was very trusting and was easily duped by a man in a bar, who had 100,000 francs in cash, but no bank account. The man promised to give Rousseau fr1000 if he would open a bank account for the man. Rousseau did so and was duly given the fr1000, he was delighted. Needless to say, four days later Rousseau was arrested for fraud, because the money was fake. The man had, obviously, disappeared and also managed to withdraw fr90,000 from another branch of the bank. Rousseau was eventually freed after a short time in prison, but it just goes to show the idea behind those scam emails is nothing new.
